"In 'Sri Bhaktyaloka', Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur describes Haridas Thakur's determination to chant in the face of adversity and to be compassionate to all living entities while always chanting the holy name of the Lord as the path of devotional service exhibited by previous mahajanas. He continues, 'A path cannot be manufactured. Whatever path is there should be accepted by sadhus.'

Rama Raya Prabhu has truly understood this principle and demonstrates by his own example that he is a staunch follower of our previous mahajanas. His determination to distribute the holy name on the streets and in the subway stations of New York City every day, year after year, is incomparable. I have personally witnessed on many occasions how the mere thought of missing even one day on the streets of New York causes him great anguish.

Rama Raya Prabhu's compassion, to give the pure holy name and to give everyone who comes in contact with the pure holy name the opportunity to take one of Srila Prabhupada's books, has inspired devotees from all over the world to join him in, as Srila Prabhupada proclaimed, 'the most important city in the world.'

'Yes, from the very beginning I went to New York because I thought that Krishna Consciousness is the most important idea in the world, so let me go to that place, New York, which is the most important city in the world, and if I am able to do anything for Krishna and my Spiritual Master, even I am at the fag-end of my life, at least let me try for it there.' [Letter to: Sudama  --  Bombay 23 December, 1972]

I appeal to Gaudiya Vaisnavas throughout the world to offer their support to His Grace Rama Raya Prabhu and his dedicated team of kirtaniyas so that they may continue their efforts to follow the path Srila Prabhupada himself also followed and left as the path his own followers should follow for many generations to come.
